Dec. 20th, 2004 10:28 amI'm updating from the newspaper room, sitting here with Mandy and doing absolutly nothing since I had no classes before my studyhall. Stupid delay schedule.
I did get to sleep in though, so all is good. I'm going Christmas shopping tonight after my clarinet lesson.
My dad's birthday was yesterday. We got him several DVD's (including the Neverending Story!), pictures of kitty and I, a new water heater, and a car. I had the house to myself and did nothing but play the sims and read Harry Potter. I'm beginning to see a trend here.
Anyway, while rereading Order of the Phoniex I noticed something. Much as love reading fanfic rereading JKR's stuff was like coming home. She doesn't have a wonderful writing style, but maybe becuase I started reading her when I was so young, it was just right. No matter IC any writer has Harry it's just not the same as reading JKR's writing. I kind of went, that's Harry, right there, problems and whinging and use of caps and all, that's him. Part of what makes the HP books so entertaining is that JKR's style isn't too advanced. It doesn't interfere with the story, it's just a vehicle for it. You can be tired and zoned out and still pick up on the story. The layers aren't in the language they're in the story. And it works.
